# Create Runtime

> Create a new agent runtime from a template

client = GravixLayer()

runtime = client.runtime.create(
    template="python-3.14-base-small",
    env_vars={"APP_ENV": "production"},
    metadata={"project": "my-agent"},
)

print(runtime.runtime_id)

# Clean up when done
runtime.kill()
```

## Parameters

| Parameter         | Type    | Required | Description                                     |
| ----------------- | ------- | -------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
| `template`        | string  | Yes      | Template name (e.g. `python-3.14-base-small`)   |
| `timeout`         | integer | No       | Runtime timeout in seconds                      |
| `env_vars`        | object  | No       | Environment variables injected into the runtime |
| `metadata`        | object  | No       | User-defined metadata                           |
| `internet_access` | boolean | No       | Enable internet access                          |
| `provider`        | string  | No       | Cloud provider (`azure`, `aws`, `gcp`)          |
| `region`          | string  | No       | Region (`eastus2`, `us-east-1`)                 |
